Pastor Joe’s journey into ministry was born out of a growing burden for young people.
In the mid-1990s, while working in public relations and advertising, he became increasingly concerned about the spiritual and developmental needs of young people, particularly those who were vulnerable and at risk.
His concern extended beyond ministering to young people already within Living Faith Church Worldwide, popularly known as Winners’ Chapel.
He developed a broader desire to reach young people with the Gospel while providing them with guidance, mentorship and a pathway to purposeful living.
Before establishing YDI in 1996, Pastor Joe served in youth ministry at Living Faith Church in Lagos. Public accounts describe him as having served as a pioneering youth pastor within the ministry.
In 1995, seeking greater clarity concerning the burden and vision he believed God had placed in his heart, Pastor Joe embarked on a three-day prayer retreat at Redemption Camp with other believers.
Following this period of prayer and seeking God, he shared the vision with his mentor and father in the faith, David Oyedepo, who encouraged and blessed the vision.
On 31 December 1995, Pastor Joe and his wife, Henrietta, were appointed into full-time ministry.
One month later, on 30 January 1996, Young Disciples International was formally launched at a take-off ceremony conducted by Bishop David Oyedepo.
That moment marked the beginning of a ministry journey that would develop into a lifelong commitment to young people, discipleship and leadership development.
Through Young Disciples International, Pastor Joe has pursued a clear mission: to raise young people globally who know God, understand their identity and purpose, and are equipped to become responsible leaders and meaningful contributors to society.
YDI has developed into a platform for Christian discipleship, youth mentoring, leadership development, evangelism, academic development and personal transformation.
Its programmes have included youth-focused teaching, camps, Bible training and leadership initiatives.
The ministry has established a presence across Nigeria and internationally, with activities and connections extending to countries including Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Benin Republic, Ghana and Liberia, among others.
YDI continues to operate with a strong emphasis on developing the successor generation. Its programmes and training initiatives reflect Pastor Joe’s continuing personal involvement in teaching young people on subjects including the new birth, friendship, leadership, parental relationships, mentorship, character development, the covenant of purity, Kingdom service, capacity building and academic success.
This is significant because Pastor Joe’s ministry is not merely about preaching to young people; it is about developing them.
This commitment was further demonstrated in 2008 when Pastor Joe was invited by the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Pastor Enoch Adeboye to participate in a programme focused on imparting and influencing the next generation.
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe is also the Founder and Senior Pastor of Great House Mandate Church.
Great House Mandate Church represents another expression of his pastoral assignment: a church built around the Gospel of Jesus Christ, spiritual growth, purposeful living, service and the development of people who can fulfil God’s purpose for their lives.
The philosophy reflected in Great House’s ministry teaching is strongly centred on the conviction that ministry is a divine assignment and a responsibility to serve others, rather than merely a title or platform.
Its ministry materials emphasise receiving, understanding, obeying and fulfilling God’s assignment, with righteousness, faith, wisdom, diligence, discipline and vision forming essential foundations for effective ministry.
This philosophy captures a significant dimension of Pastor Joe’s leadership:
He does not merely seek to gather people; he seeks to build people.
One of the distinctive features of Pastor Joe’s work is his conviction that education is an instrument for shaping destiny.
This conviction led to the establishment of Witty Class Academy, an educational initiative founded by him.
Education remains an important part of his ministry philosophy because he believes that raising a generation requires more than spiritual instruction.
His commitment to education is also evident in his teaching and writing.
His programmes for young people consistently combine spiritual development with academic excellence, leadership and practical life skills.
For Pastor Joe, raising a generation therefore involves equipping the mind, strengthening character, developing leadership capacity and helping young people discover and maximise their potential.
Joe Jesimiel Ogbe is a prolific author whose writings span Christian living, youth development, relationships, marriage, faith, personal development, academic excellence, fiction and financial prosperity.

His book Pathways to Academic Success, for example, focuses on practical strategies for students struggling academically, while Problem Solving Skills for Teenagers addresses challenges confronting contemporary adolescents and seeks to equip them with practical problem-solving tools.
His writings therefore reflect his larger ministry philosophy:
Raise the spirit. Develop the mind. Prepare the individual for life.
Pastor Joe’s leadership influence has been particularly visible in his work with young people.
He is one of the pioneering members of the Board of Regents of Covenant University.
His ministry has consistently addressed issues that affect the development of young people, including identity, relationships, sexuality, faith, education, career choices, leadership, family relationships and personal responsibility.
In a 2019 interview, he spoke openly about challenges young people face, including sexual abuse and exploitation within religious environments, reflecting his longstanding involvement in counselling and youth development.
His continued involvement in YDI programmes demonstrates that mentorship remains central to his leadership philosophy.
His teaching engagements have covered leadership, friendship, academic success, parental relationships and spiritual foundations.
At the heart of Pastor Joe Jesimiel Ogbe’s story is a simple but powerful philosophy:
•People can be raised.
•Destinies can be developed.
•Young people can be equipped.
•Leaders can be mentored.
•Lives can be transformed through the Gospel.
He pioneered the Possibility Conference and structured his team to take the message of revival and transformation across university campuses in Nigeria.
His work across the church, YDI, education, publishing, university campuses and youth development reflects a consistent desire to build people who will not merely exist, but will discover purpose, develop capacity and make meaningful contributions to the Kingdom of God and society.
When once asked about his hobby, Pastor Joe gave an answer that perhaps best captures his life’s assignment: building young people—young people grounded in faith, equipped for leadership, committed to learning and prepared to make a difference.
Pastor Joe Jesimiel Ogbe is married to Mrs. Henrietta Ogbe, popularly known as Hettie
The couple have three children: Jesse, David and Bode.
Pastor Joe and Pastor Mrs. Henrietta’s journey together dates back to their early developmental years at the university, where their relationship began to take shape.
Together, they have continued to serve and pursue the work of ministry, with family, faith and the raising of people remaining important dimensions of their shared journey.
Pastor Joe Jesimiel Ogbe’s story is ultimately not simply the story of a pastor who founded a church or a youth minister who established an organisation.
It is the story of a man who responded to a burden for a generation and spent decades turning that burden into institutions, books, programmes, relationships and, most importantly, people.
From the emergence of Young Disciples International in 1996 to his continuing pastoral leadership at Great House Mandate Church, his work has remained anchored in discipleship, education, leadership and the development of people.
His legacy is therefore best measured not merely by the platforms he has built, but by the lives that have been influenced, equipped and positioned to fulfil their God-given potential.
His assignment can be expressed in one sentence:
To love Jesus Christ, to raise people, to develop leaders and to prepare a generation for purposeful service to God and humanity.
